Why is the WiFi at McDonald's so slow?

First I thought it was just an issue at the McDonald's I went to. The internet was incredibly slow. So slow, I literally couldn't do much more than just get connected.

Then I went to another McDonald's (still in the area) and it was almost just as slow (but usable)

Then I went back to the first one, and same thing.

Today I went to a third McDonald's (also close to the other two) and it just as slow. In fact, I did a speed test and I got an incredibly low download speed of only 0.14 mbps!
I have used wifi at McDs before and don't remember it being this slow. I am ready to talk to the people that work there to see why is it like this? And you can't even blame it on a lot of people being here, as I am virtually the only one here this late.

According to data collected by the London-based app OpenSignal, McDonald’s restaurants have faster Wi-Fi than any other in-store public network used by the app’s smartphone users in the US. The average download speed in McDonald’s eateries is 4.187 Mbps, over four times faster than speeds in Panera chains. Best Buy came in at a close second at 3.879 Mbps.

But McDonald’s download-speed dominance doesn’t extend much beyond chain stores. Many hotel groups in the US offer much faster speeds: Hilton topped the list at 8.477 Mbps.

Auto-authentication for Wi-Fi:

• Starting in 2012, Bell has started testing Wi-Fi auto-authentication for Bell clients.
• During this testing, Some Bell clients within a Bell hotspot (excluding hotspots at retail partner locations) may be automatically taken off the mobile network and put onto secure Bell Wi-Fi - without needing to launch their browser and accept Terms and Conditions.
• This will only occur if the user has their Wi-Fi signal turned on.
• More details will be made available when the service launches.
